Susies Duck Sanctuary
About us:
Susies Duck Sanctuary was created to help rescue, rehab and rehome non-native ducks here in Hawaii, and transition them into pets. This takes them out of the environment so that they don’t harm Native species, and at the same time, it helps Hawaiian home owners have wonderful, loving companions who can help keep their yards free of pests like slugs and snails.
We are volunteers who just care about the wellbeing of these wonderful ducks and want to share them with those who will love them too.
These ducks are only to be pets, not for food.

Meet The Penguins - Rico, Skipper, Kowalski and Private
This is the unique Khaki Campbell foursome at the sanctuary. They had a very rough start to life with improper care, resulting in some disabilities. Rico has wry neck and some wonky legs, but he is still mobile and makes the most out of life. Skipper, the only female, is the leader of the crew. She is outgoing, affectionate and will sound the alert if something doesn’t seem right. She likes to be reassured and comforted. Kowalski and Private will follow the crew around them yard and discuss philosophy, music, and food. |
Bunny, Wendy and Merida
Bunny was found in a bucket on Christmas Day 2021 with his brother Checkers. Bunny is a long-term resident still looking for his forever home. Sweet natured and calm, he would make a wonderful companion for a first-time duck owner. Bunny enjoys having a nice conversation in the afternoon sun. He is independent and low maintenance. Especially with his ladies, Merida and Wendy. These girls are adventurous and spunky who like to root around the garden. When they get tired, they nap under the lilikoi vine. The trio would make a fantastic addition to most families if there is space. The ideal family would have a garden for them to roam and forage. They are bonded to each other and would make an amazing flock. |
Meet Ariel and Prince Eric
(special needs) This pair was attacked by a dog while on their nest. They were some of the first residents brought to the sanctuary. Eric has a disability which prevents him from walking normally. He will need an experienced owner who can work with him on his injured leg. He is protective, sweet, and calm. Except in the morning when he likes to bathe in his water bowl. Ariel, who was injured so severely we were afraid she wouldn’t survive the night, made a miraculous recovery. She is now fully abled and enjoys the ability to walk unhindered. She is independent and calm. The ideal home would have the extra time and ability to help Eric. Ariel likes to roam the garden while Eric keeps watch. |
Meet Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles is a big boy. He is curious and chatty. He is a duck who needs an experienced owner that knows how to set firm boundaries. He will need a patient and understanding home, as he is still unsure of himself. We believe he suffered some abuse before being dumped at a golf course. He does not like men but can be gentle when interacting with women. He needs a home who can give him all the love he deserves. |
Meet Wander
Truly a heart stealer. Wander is social, people loving, and always the life of the party. He brings joy to all who encounter him. He loves to chat and tell you about his day. His ideal home would have lots of people to talk to, a bucket of slippers of his choosing, and maybe a girlfriend or two. Wander is everyone’s favorite door greeter at the sanctuary. He prefers people to ducks, so a companion to listen to his stories would be ideal. |
Meet Ben and Jerry
The brothers are the official welcoming committee to the sanctuary. They are talkative and fun. They love to be around people while watching over their domain. Ben is the chill brother, happy to be vibing under the palm tree. Jerry is more outgoing and always ready to pose for the camera. We can’t blame him because he is so handsome. These boys are mature and stable. Special considerations need to be taken for them, as they LOVE being around people so much. The ideal owner would enjoy their company and companionship every day. |
